UHTTI Deputy Principal Kaneene welcomes UPDF trainees

A team of 58 Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) are at the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) for a one-month catering course. The trainees are all from the UPDF School of Logistics and Engineering based at Magamaga, Mayuge district.

While receiving the team at the Institute premises in Jinja, the Institute Deputy Principal Moses Kaneene commended the discipline of the UPDF trainees and urged them to maximize their stay at the Institute.

“The training you are receiving will make you an alumni of this Institute that is the only Hotel and Tourism training Institute in the country,” Kaneene said.

He lauded the UPDF for partnering with the Institute in the area of training students in paramilitary skills.

Speaking at the same occasion, the current Crested Cranes Hotel Manager Christine Opoka urged the UPDF trainees to be exemplary and communicate in case of any concerns.

“Endeavour to maintain discipline and observe the rules of the Institute,” Opoka said.

UHTTI has a number of collaborations and among them is the Uganda People’s Defence Forces. The others are Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Kabale University, Busitema University, Busoga Kingdom and Bank of Uganda.

The Institute is also in collaboration with Utali College in Kenya, National College of Tourism (NCT) in Tanzania, Sabegna School of Travel and Tourism in Liberia, Institute of  Tourism and Hotel Management Salzburg based in Austria and the Netherlands based Nooderpoort College of Tourism, among others.
