Grey Crowned Crane Festival

Nature Uganda in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has organized the Cranes Festival as one of the activities leading up to this year’s World Wildlife Day celebrations in Kisoro. The Festival will be held at Kikungiri Primary School in Kabale District. The purpose of the festival is to increase awareness about the dangers facing this unique bird which is also Uganda’s emblem.

The activities of the festival will include dance, drama, and art work from primary schools in the area representing the habitat of the Grey Crowned Crane and its importance in the lives of Ugandans .  During the Festival the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities will launch the Grey Crowned Crane Action Plan which outlines the government’s strategy to conserve the Crane and its habitat.

The Hon. Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities is expected to officiate at the festival and launch the Action Plan.
